When using WPbakery page builder, the category name cannot be converted from utf8 to the correct Chinese. Theme The7 I originally used has no such problem.
My WP website is in Chinese Language. I used The7 theme (site A) before, now I duplicated whole site and changed to the salient theme to develop (staging site B). Basically, the translation and plug-ins in site A and B are the same.
I find that Salient cannot support Chinese (non-latin characters) slug, the editor of WPBakery Page Builder can not display Chinese categories correctly, and posts categories with "Sortable Filters" can not works.
For example, if I created a Page to show previous posts using "Post Grid" with Sortable Filters, categories slug in Chinese characters slug not work. The labels of categories displayed in Chinese characters, but it cannot be rearranged by clicking on categories.
I also created two categories in English slug to test it, and it runs fine.
In the same conditions. I also created same process with WPBakery Page Builder in the7 (site A). The Chinese slug works just normally, so I think the problem is that Salient cannot handle non-latin characters slug correctly, no other factors.
Did you ever find a theme than can display Chinese correctly. I'm having trouble too but mine is with a theme that works well with woo commerce but I will eventually need Chinese pages as well.
The element "Blog" and "Recent Posts" in WPB can't not show non-latin categories slug correct, but "Category Grid" show chinese characters correct.
As I said before, if the slug problem cannot be handled correctly, it will cause "Sortable Filters" and rearrangement problems. I also found that if you want to "load more" posts, it will load all articles that are not in my selected categories.
