I'm trying to carry out the dummy data upload to my WP account. However the dummy data xml file doesnt seem to be in my folder of the theme. Moreover the uploader always seems to have an issue when I try upload one.

Have you tried using the built-in importer for the demo?
It works pretty well so no need for an XML file.
Head to Salient > Demo Importer from your dashboard, after activating your theme and required plugins.
Let me know the result.
