    I set the Featured Image on the home page and now that picture is somehow still being referenced in the HTML and I can't change the featured image.  I deleted the image from Media in WP and now on the site the featured image is just black because it can't find the file, even when I change the featured image on the edit panel.

    Hey Taylor, 

    The Black Image shows up because you have no image set in the Feature Image box . You can also hide it using the Meta Options :
