Modifications to my child theme functions.php file won't work - particularly the woocommerce modifications included in the attachment. Why? Is the parent theme overwriting the child theme? What code must I change?

Thanks for reply. I am not using a header.php file with my child theme - only the files that were unzipped from the child theme Salient file. Therefore, unless I am missing something, it doesn't appear that the article you provided applies to me. 

Here is a picture of how my header.php file looks on the parent Salient theme. 

Ultimately, I am still having the same problems. How can I make modifications in the functions.php file in my child theme?
