Serving Scaled Images

Hello! I just upgraded to Salient 8 and love it! However, I was running reports with gtmetrix, and I keep getting an F on the pagespeed score under the "Serve Scaled Images" category.

Is there anything I can do to improve this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Eric,

Thanks for contacting us regarding your query.

You may take a look at the following plugin linked below to accomplish this request.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/

After you have used this plugin, please use the Force Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to regenerate the image thumbnails

Please let me know if there are any more questions that I may answer for you.

    Cheers!

    Hi Andrew -

Thanks for the quick reply! I did the following as you suggested:

    - installed WP Smush and ran it against all 150 or so images until it reported that all images were smushed.

    - installed Force Regenerate Thumbnails and had it regenerated (this took about 20 minutes)

    - turned of W3 Cache, just to make sure that wasn't causing problems.

I'm still getting a message that the website isn't serving scaled images (see attached). Any other thoughts as to what I could try?

    Thanks!

    Eric

After digging into it further, I am wondering - is this happening because of the masonry/etc settings I have set up for the homepage? All of the reported 'unscaled' images are for the homepage. This makes me think that scaling *only* happens in css/code for masonry-type pages. This is why I'm seeing weird sizes in gtmetrix.com like 267x401 and 267x194. Is this right? I'm guessing there's nothing I can do about it in that case?

    Thanks!

    Hey Again,
Hope you had a Great Weekend,

You seem to be using the Custom Thumbnail Option to add in the Images whichdeos not scale/crop the images .

Use the Featured Image Metabox so the Theme adds the correct Adaptive Image  .

    Hi Tahir!

Thanks so much for the reply! Removing the custom thumbnail as you mentioned made a big difference. However (and this is probably the reason I started using custom thumbnails) - masonry seems to break for vertical images, cropping them to make them the same size as the others. I've tried changing the masonry item sizing settings in the portfolio item to regular, tall, wide, and tall and wide, and no setting seems to do anything other than crop it.

I'm attaching a screen shot below. If you visit the website, it's just the upper-right portfolio image (diner) that I've been testing - the other vertical images have the same vertical image set for the thumbnail and are showing vertically.

    Thank you!!!

    Eric

    Hey Again,

Yes the Featured Image would crop the Image in which case you will have to manually crop and scale the Image in the Media Library Before setting it .

The image sizes are as follows  :

    Hi Tahir -

Thanks! Ok, so what I'm guessing here, is that there's no real way then to have a 2x3 camera-image aspect ratio as a vertical when using a masonry option, correct? The best I could do is 900x1200 (vs. 800x1200 for a 2x3).

    Is that right? Thanks!
