I was hiding the certain rows and columns via the responsive settings and checking off the hide on device but with my rows that have a background image, its not hiding it on mobile or desktop. it shows on both no matter what is checked off. please help
Okay, thanks so much. Will take a look at that. One more question -- is it possible on the default blog setting via the recent post widget to have a read more link similar to the minimal layout? How would I add that?
Also on the full blog page seen here -- is it possible to hide the author on the left hand side or is there a layout im missing that is just the blog feed and sidebar?

To hide rows you will have to use extra classes as the Background are not part of the Column Div Structure.
