I've reviewed the message boards and followed the instructions to set up the Envato plugin (and successfully activated it with the API and token) to manage updates for the Salient theme (v. 8.5.0) and the visual page builder, but nothing is giving me a prompt to update the Visual Composer plugin (v. 5.2.2) and I'd really like the newest one as I build my site.
The option "Disable Theme Reccomended Plugin Notifications" is NOT selected. So I should have been getting updates.
I'm not sure what I'm getting stuck on or why I can't seem to get the update. I do not want to delete the theme and start over -- for fear of losing all my work.
As I said in my original message, I already read that exact article you just sent me, and followed the directions. I would really prefer not to have to manually update if it could just be done through the backend of wordpress like every other plugin. I find FTP really challenging since I'm not a developer, just a normal person who bought this theme to do my site myself.
The other main issue is that I do not have a notification that an update is needed. Even the Envato plugin doesn't tell me I need one for the composer or the theme. So how can I know if I do for the future?
The only reason I even knew that is I found out when I was trying to trouble shoot issues with the visual composer and saw I wasn't on the most updated version.
You dont have to use FTP . Just install the Easy Themes Plugin and upload the latest theme as mentioned in here :http://prntscr.com/hsz7ea . The Envato Market Plugin could not be working due to a number of server side issues so we cant help with that . Please contact your hosting provider.

The regular upload via wordpress didn't either.
I finally had to just update everything via FTP, which took so long. :-(
The thing that I'm still concerned about is that I wasn't given any alerts about the theme or the plugin needing an update on my backend of wordpress. I only discovered there was a recent update rather accidentally through the chat forums looking for an answer on something else.

You can update manually as well by using the Easy Themes Plugin .

Make sure to check the Notification on the Themeforest Page so you get a email when there is a new update.
