Could you use the salient.zip inside the zip you get from the download on themeforest instead?
That is what you use to install the theme and not the main zip you download from themeforest as it contains other files and its not the theme install files.
Thanks for the reply. I did manage to get the Salient theme and the Visual Composer plugin installed. I encountered an error when I tried to use demo data. A bunch of php code was showing up in the header and footer. I want to get a portfolio setup for my digital design work thats all. I was going to get the Semplice template but opted for Salient but know I'm thinking the Semplice may of been a better choice. Any help is appreciated.
About the PHP errors, could you make sure you are using PHP 5.6 or higher on your server an also that you have set the PHP memory to at least 128 MB. You can confirm those details from your hosting provider support.
Also show them a screenshot of the errors as they are likely in a better position to help
There is also the alternative of creating the portfolio items from scratch under portfolio on your wordpress dashboard. Then place those items in categories you create in portfolio \ category. After that create a page and set the page template to portfolio in the page attribute section. Leave blank and save. View the page on the front end and copy the URL into salient \ portfolio - functionality - main portfolio page URL.
That will be a page showing all your portfolio items that you an add to your main menu. For a filter on top select the display sortable option on the Portfolio Display Settings section that shows up when you edit that page.
I reinstalled everything (wordpress) and the theme and followed your advice. Everything seems to be working now. I'm building a portfolio. Thank you for the quick response it's appreciated.
The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.
