Is there a simple way to create an edge-to-edge video using vimeo, exactly how this site is doing using the Salient theme?

No i am afraid it hasnt made it yet. You can use a Premium Slider such as Revolution or Layer Slider as they have fullscreen option and vimeo vidoe source options.

@Wes Curious to know did you customise that full width vimeo solution on the homepage or is it using a 'Row Element' with 'Embedded Video' ?

I ended up achieving that same look by having someone customs build me a plug-in.
@Tahir Thanks I ended up looking at the code just earlier and noting that also. ;)
