The current portfolio item structure is "mysite.com/portfolio/portfolio-item1".
Is it possible to remove the word 'portfolio' from the above, making the link to a portfolio item simply "mysite.com/portfolio-item1"
I have tried going to Salient Options > Portfolio > Functionality > Custom Slug, and setting the field to "/". Then saving 'Settings > Permalinks' to flush things.
The address bar behaves exactly as I want and it looks like it has worked, but all website links (not just portfolio) then gives a 404 error.
Have googled and searched quite a bit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No unfortunately it cant be removed only replaced with another characters as WP needs a Slug for a Custom Post Type to function .
