Purchased this theme because the previous website owner has Salient Theme on their website.
"Visual Composer" is still the plugin on the website and I assume WPBakery has to be the new plugin, but I don't know how to install the new plugin without breaking anything.
You can always make a backup of your site - full backup and then update the theme to the latest version and see if there are any issues. If there are you have a backup to go back to.

Yes the new salient visual composer is named salient wpbakery page builder - 5.4.7
And update from the immediate previous version should not cause an issue. We mean if you update from 8.5.4 to 8.5.5 then you should not have an issue.
