You can update by downloading a fresh copy from ThemeForest, deleting the current version you have on your server and uploading the new. I recommend using FTP, but you can use the WP dashboard if you prefer. You won't lose any of your content or theme settings so don't worry about that if you were :)
Could you please try deactivating all plugins. Then switch to the default theme and then delete the Salient version 4.0.2 and then upload version 4.0.3 .
You would not loose the data such as images, pages , menus. However if you have made any edits to the theme files they would be lost since the theme files will be replaced by the new one.

OK - i'm not sure if V 4.0.2 is the newest - do i need to upgrade?
if i delete 'theme' from my WP site to re-install won't i loose all my changes/data?
working thru dashboard on Mac and PC visual editor does not work. ... thoughts on how to fix this?
