Is it possible to have the most recently updated portfolio items appear on top of the portfolio page, as opposed to the newly created items?
I would love all my work on the page, filterable, but would like to be able to choose what appears on top.. Is it possible to do? That would be awesome. Thank you for your help!

No i am afraid there is no such sorting option available at the moment. Try using this plugin to manually sort the posts :https://wordpress.org/plugins/post-types-order/ .
