Would it be possible to add an image and its properties (i.e. alignment, size) to the Testimonial Slider shortcode, or even a background image?

Unfortunately this wouldn't be practically possible without custom development - it's a good item to add to the wishlist, but for now it would require a plugin or possibly custom development. However, you really probably could find a free plugin to handle it
