I have created a grid template using Essential Grid but seem to have a conflict with lightbox settings in Salient. my essential grid lightbox simply will not display navigation arrows to allow scrolling through images. If you look at thr provided URL you can click on any image to enlarge it but find that you can then only enlarge further but not scroll through the other pictures in the way that a lightbox should work

May be your theme is dequeuing lightbox javascript file and causing conflict but best way is to ask your theme support regarding this issue.

Is there a way in which I can overcome this by deactivating lightbox options in Salient or some custom CSS? I have tried changing the theme to material etc and changing the lightbox to Magnific but to no avail.
Try Switching to the Magnific Lightbox Library in Salient Theme Options Panel -> General Settings-> Functionality as that supports https . If there is a plugin compatibility issue set "Theme Lightbox" to "None" .
If you have Page Transitions Turned On Please Switch the Animated Transition Method to "Standard" in Salient Theme Options -> Page Transition Section.
