Hi there, I have been trying to install the salient theme to my wordpress site but when clicking the "install plugins" portion of appearance > Install Plugins, the Visual Composer didn't even show up to install. I have tried deleting the theme and reuploading/installing it and it still hasn't shown up. Clearly I need the visual composer to use this theme effectively.
Then go to appearance \ install plugins to install and activate salient wpbakery page builder.
Salient visual composer was changed to salient wpbakery page builder.
If for some reason it still does not appear in that install plugins page then you can find the zip for the plugin in salient \ plugins \ folder in the theme files.
You can extract the js_composer_salient folder in the zip to your wp-content \ plugins \ folder to install the page builder manually.
Hi, I am working on a clients website that has Salient and I do not see the visual composer plugin although when I open a page I see the Visual composer icon, however, when I click it just spins and nothing loads. One time it did load but it said there was not content on the page when in fact there was. Any suggestions will be appreciated. The attached files show the classic editor view and when I clicked Visual Composer.
That seems to be visual composer the official version and not the theme's own visual composer.
The theme uses a customized version of visual composer that is now called salient wpbakery page builder and that is what you should have installed instead of visual composer. The plugin is included with theme and you can install it under appearance \ install plugins after you switch to salient in appearance \ themes.
By the way before it was called salient wpbakery page builder it was called salient visual composer, just to clarify.
Aslo we are assuming you are using the latest version of theme 8.5.6 which comes with salient wpbakery page builder 5.4.7 the latest.
And you should not update to the newest version as its most likely going to cause issues as the theme did go through a major update that changed it fundermantaly.
Try and move over to the newer version gradually and have a full backup of the site as it is with the older version just in case. There is no standard procedure for this and you will have to install the newer version next to the older theme and then stitch to it. Then see if anything does not work. And you will also have to update salient visual composer to salient wpbakery page builder.
Thank you, I am doing that now. I manually uploaded the theme to my server. I noticed that someone had changed the name of the old salient theme as well. It installed ok and I also installed the VC. The new version I got from the client was a version 8 but not the latest one. It is working from admin but the site is not loading. Any reason why this would happen?

Try that and let us know how it goes.
OMG, the version they have is 4.1.1
Hi houddini,

Version 8.015
Ok I sorted it out, a minify plugin was causing the issue. So now that 8.015 is working, what is the best way to update to latest?
Hi houddini,
The client should have access to the latest 8.5.6 in there themeforest.net account and they need to download it for you.
The theme does not have an updater feature.
Could you let them know about that.
The theme should be available for download from the downloads section on there themeforest.net account.
