Hey Vova, you can update by downloading a fresh copy from ThemeForest, deleting the current version you have on your server and uploading the new. I recommend using FTP, but you can use the WP dashboard if you prefer. You won't lose any of your content or theme settings so don't worry about that if you were :)
Hey Vova, actually I'd recommend overwriting the Salient theme with an FTP connection - that way you won't accidently delete any files that shouldn't be deleted by mistake. Cheers :)
1- using a ftp software (transmit in my case), I should first delete the salient folder in the wp-content/themes directory ? And then copy the new salient foler ? Or should I open the salient folder in the server and "overwrite" what's inside by the files in the salient folder (on my harddrvie) ? The second method will leave some fils on the server that doesn't exist on the updated version of the them (for example).
2- should I do every update one after the other, or can I "jump" some ?
For example, I'm trying to go from 2.6 to 3.1.5 but my portfolio is broken, and no way to reach the wp-login.php page now. I don't remeber my wp version, so I'm trying to re-upload the 2.6 version of the them to see if this fix the problem.
Couldn't you just install it through the WP Theme editor? Seems like that'd be the easiest way for several reasons:
It'd keep your content separated from the theme (always scares me to replace files via FTP as you can't get them back easily without a backup)
It'd allow you to switch to the earlier Salient theme should the update cause some catastrophic thing to happen
Can be done from any machine via an internet connection (no FTP software required)
Am I missing something? Why wouldn't this be a better solution to upgrading?
Also, something that Themenectar should consider, is the idea of upgrading directly from the info page within the theme. That would be even easier. Just a thought.
So, I went ahead and tried just replacing the theme with the same, updated theme, and apparently WP doesn't work that way. I got a "Theme already exists" error, then backed out. I'm trying the replacing the whole theme suggestion as mentioned earlier.
Hi guys,
What is the correct way of installing updates to this theme? Do I have to re-install WordPress? Is there a way that all the content remains?
Thanks in advance,
Vova.

Thanks for your help, Sam and TN.
Hey Eric, I recommend Overwriting the files via FTP instead of deleting them. And you can jump them if you want! Cheers :)
Thanks Sam. This was really helpful. I hope for Eric as well :)
