I recently updated Salient to the newest version (it had been a while). I'm adding some new Portfolio items, but noticed that the Gallery Slider checkbox does not appear in the Project Configuration area for any new portfolio items I create in.
I went back and looked at older projects and the checkbox is still there.
Oops, just noticed a closed related ticket mentions turning on the Visual Composer within the Portfolio item (where it says Extra Content) and inserting a gallery slider that way. Also make sure to check Hide Featured Image on single item to move the gallery slider up where it belongs.
That's a bizarre work around, but I got it to work. I wonder why the 'Gallery Slider' still appears in my old portfolio projects and not in the new ones?
I agree, it's bizarre. Especially since the theme documentation doesn't address it - still has the old steps.
It is better in the long run but if you want them all to be consistent, say for a client you're handing the site off to like we are, you have to go back through a number of steps to rework each Portfolio item. Sometimes if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
I followed your visual composer steps within the Portfolio and turned on the Gallery Slider. It works if I just let it go on its own. But if I click on one of the arrows < or > , then my whole screen go grey, and I can only click my menu options. Any ideas?
If I click on an image, it brings up the full screen view and I can scroll through my images that way.
The loading depends on the size of the image the bigger the image the longer it takes to load it . The Theme Js files are just some kb's so i dont think it would cause any delay in the loading process.

Same for me, there's no way to make a slider in the portfolio!
We have the same issue. Happened for us after updating the theme yesterday to version 4.0.2

True. It does make a bit more sense now on how to build it. Fortunately I don't have to explain this one to a client. Thanks again for posting.

Screen shot of grey screen.
Hey Andrew!
Please try deactivating third-party plugins as they might be causing a conflict.
Thanks

Yes, that must've been the issue. I also deactivated and activated the theme. Thanks.
The galleries load very very slow. Is this normal for this theme?
