The Salient plugins (Salient Widgets, Salient Shortcodes, Salient Portfolio and so on) are not treated as regular plugins by Wordpress. Even though there are updates available for them, those updates do not show on the regular update page in the Wordpress backend. It is troublesome to both update plugins (and themes and Wordpress core etc.) from the Wordpress update page, and then have to go and check your "Install plugins" page to see if something needs updating there, and then update those too.
It is even more cumbersome since I manage a lot of sites and therefore use the iThemes Sync plugin, where I can log in to one place and with a couple of clicks install all core, plugin and theme updates on multiple sites – except for the Salient plugins updates since they are not treated as regular plugins.
Can you please make the Salient plugins work like regular plugins?
I really think that the Salient plugins should work like I described. Try updating a site running Salient and you should see that it would be easier to update and more obvious that there are Salient plugin updates if it worked like that.
Any more info on this? It is very tedious to update Salient for me, since I use it on 12(!) sites. What is the purpose of the Salient plugins that are requiring updates not showing on the regular Wordpress updates screen? Since the Salient plugins updates are hidden in the Plugins page, they are not treated as regular plugins. So now I have to login to 12 different sites and update each separately instead of updating them all with just a few clicks through iThemes Sync, which I use for other sites with other themes, where all themes and their plugins are easily updated.
Are you sure? The Salient plugins on my sites don't get updated once the Theme gets updated. I have to update the Salient Portfolio, Salient Shortcodes etc manually from the "Install (Required) Plugins" page.
I don't need an automated way to update the plugins, I just want the Salient plugins to be treated as regular plugins. Then I could actually update them automatically through iThemes Sync, which would save me around two hours of work every time there is a new update for Salient since I have so many sites using your theme. In one year that is many wasted hours.
I use the Avada theme for a couple of sites too. The Avada theme has, like Salient, its own plugins "Fusion builder" and "Fusion core", which would be the equivalents to "Salient WPBakery Page Builder" and "Salient core". Avada's Fusion builder and Fusion core plugins are treated by WordPress as regular plugins, so they show up on the regular WordPress updates page and can easily be updated through iThemes Sync with just a few clicks – no need to log in to every single site and update them separately. I wish that Salient's plugins worked in the same way.
The Salient plugins are just regular plugins that the theme requires. They re included with the theme in salient \ plugins folder in the file system.
What exact notice or error are you getting with ithemes sync or why is ithemes considering them different? There should be some detailed information on why that is happening from the ithemes side.
Give us a little bit more information we see if its something we can work around or to give a better report to the developers as itheme's sync is a convenience in a case where you manage a large number of wordpress sites.
Will the automatic WordPress update features update all Salient Plugins as well? We're super happy with Salient but updates do appear to have the potential to be site breaking if not careful. Wondering if we can rely on the Wordpress automatic updating.
We asked for some details. Am not sure if you have access to them -

That's what's currently possible. Please provide the above information we requested so we atleast have a better idea on what itheme sync is giving as an error.
I don't think that the issue lies in iThemes Sync. Like I have said, Salient plugin updates are not showing in the regular Wordpress updates page. Check my attached images. Although there are updates available for Salient Core, Salient WPBakery Page Builder, Salient Portfolio and Salient Shortcodes, these updates are not shown alongside the other plugins in my example ("Coming Soon Page & Maintenance Mode av SeedProd" through "YouTube"). I guess there is where the issue lies. If your plugin updates are not shown in the WordPress updates page, I don't think that iThemes Sync can detect the updates needed. I think that Salient plugin updates are harder to detect for us users too, by the way.
Like I said in my previous post:

I don't know if the link about version control is of any relevance since that is for the product iThemes Security and not iThemes Sync, which is what I am talking about. I don't get any error message in iThemes Sync. The Salient plugins just don't show up in iThemes Sync – exactly like in the regular Wordpress updates page.
TL;DR: Maybe if you make Salient plugin updates show up in the regular Wordpress updates page (wp-admin/update-core.php) instead of hiding them on another page, the update process will be much better.
Will you reply again in this thread? I currently have some of my WordPress installations with Salient outdated because I want to test to update my sites with iThemes Sync, in case you can come up with some way to update the Salient plugins like regular plugins.

Apologies for the late reply.

If its detecting version control information then it would not allow for auto update - https://ithemes.com/wordpress-version-management-update-ithemes-security/
Give us a little bit more information we see if its something we can work around or to give a better report to the developers as itheme's sync is a convenience in a case where you manage a large number of wordpress sites.
