Thanks! I've activated the Mailchimp one since that's what I'm using to gather the emails. I've put in the html for the form, but it's filled the width, and the button is tiny underneath it. I would also like to change the box colour to white so it stands out. And the button preferably on the right of the email field. Please see screenshot of what I'm hoping to achieve if possible.

The issue does not seem to be with theme. The theme does have some form styling options that is salient \ form styling but they are targeted more towards contact form 7.
For the mailchimp plugin you are using we added an alternative looking form right below the one you were referring to on the homepage. We added the shortcode to a text block element. We set the editor in the text block to text mode and then added the shortcode.
Then we added some CSS on the custom css code option in the salient options panel to make the email field white.
Is there a way to add a newsletter sign up form on the homepage? Thanks!
