Unfortunately we do not have a solution for this since there is only one Portfolio Post type so the Mentors are by default parent of the Portfolio not Mentors.
Yes a child theme option would work but you will have to do extensive customization and create separate Shortcode and VC block. If you really need this modification done you could head on over to Envato Studio which is a service from Envato that offers paid WordPress customizations. I'm sure a developer on there would be able to wrap this up for you :)
I have 2 portfolios set up, and they are in my navigation linked to the portfolio gallery page for each.
In my second category, "Mentors", when viewing a single item from this category the Portfolio menu item is active with the current-menu-item class.
Is there any way to attribute these pages to the "Mentor" parent?
