What sort of changes would I need to make to the portfolio function in functions.php so that the portfolio page will sort by attributes instead of categories?
Or alternatively to change the "recent projects" shortcode so it can filter by attributes instead of categories.
One or the other, I don't mind which.
I just want to be able to filter by authors so I can show books by authors on their own pages. But I want to be able to filter the portfolio by genre on the portfolio page. As you can see, I want two ways to filter the portfolio items.
I noticed you mentioned last year you were considering additional sorting options in the near future after quite a few customers were asking about it. Is that still on the cards?

Unfortunately this would require some custom development. If you really need this modification done you could head on over to Envato Studio which is a service from Envato that offers paid WordPress customizations. I'm sure a developer on there would be able to wrap this up for you :)
