I have a simple page with various products to show.

Is it possible to have all product categories show on a home page but without showing the subcatergories?

And when you click one of the categories to show or choose one of the subcategories.

Or filter the subcategories, in my case it would be:

 Category: Wines

Subcategory: White,Red,Rosé,Bubbles.

However this is not exactly what I meant.

I'll try to explain better what my issue is:
I have a regular page with a category grid (I like the presentation better then 'product categories').
One of my categories has subcategories.

So on the home page I would like to show the categories ONLY, and not the subcategories.
Once you enter a category, the subcategories are shown.

Is that possible?

this is a really good question and it's a pity it seems the ticket has been closed. 

In addition, I don't understand why "subtext" field adds the SAME description to all categories and there is no way to have a unique description for each.

It would make much more sense to pull the subtext from the descriptio in the categories menu (same way as the images are pulled)
