In the main home page ascend demo about two thirds of the way down there is a list of posts with the parallax/zoom effect. When I click on these I am taken to the posts page. I am attempting to replicate this for my theme, but when i enter the shortcode its saying that I cannot use posts, rather just portfolio items. I am not using portfolio items in my theme. What can I do to create something like this on my theme?

You can create those posts using the image gallery and choosing the box grid type.
