Okay, the only thing I did was delete the "salient-old" directory off my server via FTP (I renamed the directory prior to copying the latest version of Salient, simply to 'do things the safe way. -- I still copied the old version down locally. The couple times I've neglected to do such a thing, I always get bitten)
I'll give it a shot to help. Eventually I got things working.
Since my solution was unexpected and accidental, I don't have clear steps for you, but I'll try the best I can.
I think I went to plugins ……… then noticed a "red ink" notification beside my list of plugins letting me know there was an update available for VC
Then, I believe I clicked on something right there in those settings (within my list of plugins) >>
… [insert hazy foggy memory steps] …
In the end, I found myself on a screen with the three "recommended" plugins … VC, WooCommerce and Contact7 .
I don't use those other two Salient-recommended plugins… however, it was right there on that particular screen that the options were available to check the box beside VC -- and choose "Update"
To recap the process… it's like the plugin was "in there" …… and "it knew" it needed to be updated… but after clicking around (various Theme… and Settings pages), it's almost as if I stumbled over, or triggered, the theme's settings into being reminded, "Oh! There's VC in here too! [surprised]… and I can see VC needs an update, yet only I have the method of doing that. Here [admin user]. Let me now give you an easy thing to click in order to bring him up to date."
Hi, the visual composer plugin is showing as needing to be updated in WP however when I try to update it the following is displayed:
Updating Plugin WPBakery Visual Composer (1/1)
An error occurred while updating WPBakery Visual Composer: Update package not available.
Hey Anton!
Salient uses a customized version of Visual Composer so does not need to be updated. Please update the theme instead.
Thanks

Hey Tahir,
I run into this too. Often when updating the theme, it seems like something trips up the process.
I even tried to help and made a video in here somewhere…
I'm getting the same error after FTP > updating Salient to 7.0.7 (fresh download from Themeforest)
I went to the plugins >> Noticed a "Update" link >> Checked a box to Update >> Applied Update >> error.
The Changelog claims the latest theme version has the latest VC version too.
If I find the fix, I'll post it too.
[UPDATE]

I get the same error message :(
I too am running Salient 7.0.7.... and I have uploaded its included VC plugin via FTP per Salient instructions.
I too am still getting the same update prompt for VC version 4.10.
How do we fix this?
