You might consider not going the "Page Header Image" route and have a single slide nectar slider as the top element of your page (works for pages but not posts). Then you can use your static maps URL for the image. You can also directly manipulate the database to achieve the effect you're after but that's a little more advanced.
I am planning to build a page with several map images being key to the design. I would like these maps to display full width.
After some research it seems that the Static Maps API is the best way to pull map images from Google.
According to this page, the API creates a URL which can be displayed with an <img> tag.
Will I be able to use a URL as the source for a full width image on my page?
I'd like to confirm that I will be able to use the Static Maps APT to generate an image and display it full width on the page.

I am afraid you will likely have to get the theme customized as we dont have such an option in Salient.
