    Hi there,
I want to update my portfolio (currently running Salient 7.0.8) and I realise its a few years old now and I really want to update it to the latest version of salient  and use the minimal portfolio as shown in the demo here: https://themenectar.com/salient/minimal-portfolio/

What is the best way to go about doing this? Do I need to save all my existing pages and back up and essentially build the site up from from scratch again? Or can i download the latest version and reinstall and it will still maintain all my current site as is?

If you could let me know the best way to go about this that would be great, I have just purchased the extended support extension.

    Many thanks
    Simon

    Hi Simon,

    Thanks for writing to us.

Since you are updating from a quite older version, please follow this guide:http://themenectar.com/docs/salient/important-salient-update-for-new-envato-requirements/.

Please note: Salient has undergone tremendous changes and so since you are updating from an older version you may need the help of a developer as some features are obsolete and this means the site would break.

    Thanks.

    Hi Judith,

Thank you for your reply. So as I need to update a lot of the content also, if I just deactivate the current salient theme (7.0.5) and then do a fresh install of the latest version 14.0 will that just bring in the current demo content for the minimal portfolio, and I can just replace and re-add the content, images etc. in each section in the portfolio?

    Many thanks

    Hi Simon,

Demo content has to be imported to clarify.
There is the salient demo importer plugin that needs to be installed to do this https://themenectar.com/docs/salient/salient-demo-importer-plugin/

The imported content will go over your current content and you might need to do a bit of cleanup.
It will import content and settings in the salient options panel area to create a look similar to the miimal portfolio demo.

Then from there you can replace and modify the content as needed.
But please make sure you are using a new install of salient instead of upgrading the current one as that will probably cause a lot of problems. Just install the new one besides the older one. That will require you rename the current one's folder in wp-content \ themes \ to a different name so the new one can use the regular salient folder.

    Hope this clears things up.

    Hi Elihud,

Thanks for your response, so just to clarify, If i deactivate my current old version of Salient and then do a fresh install using the latest version with all relevant new plugins and import the demo data etc, that will overwrite all my existing site and I can just starting adding and replacing my new content, is that right?
    Thanks
    Si
