I am trying to add a sidebar to a site (no blog) - right or left side, I don't care at this point! The sidebar will contain a few misc. widgets (image, quote, text block, search bar, etc). I cannot get a sidebar to appear anywhere on my site. This was my unsuccessful process:
1. Salient theme + Custom Sidebars plugin
2. Widgets > create a new custom sidebar > I add a few tester widgets > for sidebar location, I use the instructions given in the Custom Sidebars meta box on my front page, (my home page) which says to select "As blog sidebar for selected archive types, and select front page" for location.
I've watched every video and read every article, and I've seen mentions of having to change the page layout to add a sidebar? Not sure how to tackle that.
I am not comfortable adding a bunch of custom CSS to the site so I am hoping this is a Salient-specific fix...thanks in advance for your help!
This is super helpful, thank you! I was able to successfully display a sidebar on my frontpage, but I am presented with a bunch of white space around all of my content where it was previously full-width. Is there a way I can keep the sidebar while maintaining the original layout of the page?
Thank you for the tip. I went ahead and adjusted max container width and container left + right padding to 2000 (max) and 0 (min) respectively. It definitely helped in reducing the border around the page but it is still there on the top (see attached screenshot). I am also wondering where I style the appearance of my page sidebar (fix alignment issues, make sticky). There is nowhere for me to do this in Appearance > Widgets.

Hey Again,
You can add a Sidebar using two built-in ways.
Thanks

Hey Again,
If you want to make those fine adjustments then you would have to use the "Widgetized Sidebar" in the Page Builder instead of the Sidebar Template.
Thanks
