When I try to navigate between pages, the pages don't load and in their place, a white screen fills the page. There's a little smiley face in the top left hand corner when the white screen finishes loading (not sure if this means anything). Thoughts?

Try changing the Ajax method to "Standard" in Salient Theme Options -> Page Transitions Section.
