I am new to this theme, so have to get to know your back-end I guess.. 

I cannot fin why my blog files all of the sudden appear so small? Earlier I remember it worked just fine, less blank space and 2 news items per "row". What changed, or better: How do I get the page to be like that again?

I did all you said. Took down the custom CSS, deactivated all plugins: no change.

Also re-installed the Salient theme.

So, how can I restore original blog layout, could you check it out, I could send you my credentials?

Ah, well, I guess your options contradict, when I don't use them properly:

I needed to select the Standard full-width page template, then insert the Blog element Masonary with sidebar. That way it looks good again. Must say, was quite some adventure to figure that out. Maybe next update have a Blog-page-template (not only recent posts)?
