I changed the background color from grey to white and the font color from white to black. I cannot get the changes to happen. I have purged the cache on the site and on my browser. This is a site I inherited. I just purchased a new Salient theme (assume it is the latest version of 16) so I would have a purchase code to gain access to tech support. However, I have not installed the new theme. The site is running version 14.0.3 with a child theme that says v.4.1 -- is that okay? Plus is is using the WP bakery plugin. The site is not looking for an upgrade to Salient. I am afraid to load the latest version of Salient for fear the site will break and it will be like building a whole new site. What do you suggest I do to simply change the background color and text color on the theme? BTW - when I click on Appearance and go to the parent theme, it does not have an Update Now button. Can I update the parent theme if the dashboard is not looking for an update? Thank you!
-Also ensure you first update on a staging site so that once it is successful you can migrate to your live site so that your live site is not interfered with.
Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, don't hesitate to write back, I'm happy to help.
I followed the instructions on the how to update the Salient theme as you suggested. I got an error message when trying to upload that said:
"Installing plugin from uploaded file: themeforest-wIvgAn8j-salient-responsive-multipurpose-theme.zip Unpacking the package… Installing the plugin… The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found. Plugin installation failed."
I bought and downloaded the theme from Themeforest, not Envato. Does that make a difference? Please advise how to proceed. Thank you.
I loaded the Envato plugin that updates themes. It says we have the latest theme. Now what should I do to get the background color and font color to change?

Hello there,
Thanks for writing back.
You seem to be uploading the theme on the plugin section that's why you are getting the error.
To adjust the background and font colors, please head to Salient > General Settings > Styling.
I hope this proves helpful. Should you have any further questions or encounter any issues, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Hi there,
Thanks for writing back.
There could be other settings overriding this. You can use css instead to override the existing colors successfully.
