    Hello,

    I would like to have the blog sidebar on the left, but can't see how to set this up.We read from left to right, so it makes more sense to have the blog navigation on the left.

    Can you help please?

    Thanks

    Hi Annette,

    Thank you for reaching out to us.

    You can add the sidebar by navigating to Salient > Blog > General Settings.

    You can then edit the sidebar content in the Appearance > Widgets section.

    Try this and let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Thank you Andrew for getting back to me,

    Unfortunately, this doesn’t answer my question, as I’ve had no problem creating the sidebar for the blog.

    The sidebar is on the right-hand side of the blog by default

    My question is:

    How do I switch the sidebar from the right hand side of the blog to the LEFT-hand side?

    Thanks

    Annette

    Hi Annette,

    Thank you for getting back to us.

    To achieve this kind layout, add this into the Custom CSS box in your Salient Theme Options panel (We write all Custom CSS in the Live Browser to ensure accuracy. If you cannot see any changes, make sure there is no red cross in the Custom CSS Box as any syntax error would cause all CSS under that line of code to not show up on the Frontend):

    .blog .post-area {
        margin-left: 2%;
        margin-right: 0;
        float: right;
    }

    Try this and let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Hi Andrew,

    Thank you very much for this. It works on the front page of the blog, but not on and blog posts. I tried adding your css to:

    Salient - general settings - css/script related - Custom CSS Code.

    When that didn’t work properly, I deleted it and added it to:

    Customiser - additional CSS

    This has exactly the same outcome.

    Please can you help to move the sidebar to the left for Blog posts too

    Here’s the blog I’m setting up https://journal.annettepriceart.com

    Thanks

    Hello Tahir,

    Unfortunately, my website is not working correctly.

    If you take a look at my website, you will see that all the post pictures are grayed out. https://journal.annettepriceart.com

    The moment you scroll down, the pictures appear. But I suspect a lot of people won’t bother they’ll just think the website’s not working 😔

    If I switch to single blog post display, then the pictures don’t show at all, until you scroll.

    Can you help please?

    Thanks Annette

    Hi Annette,

    Thank you for getting back to us.

    I can not seem to replicate this error from our end. All images are loading as intended after the page loads. Here's a screenshot of the same.

    I recommend clearing your cache and then deactivating any caching plugin you have installed and see if this resolves your issue.

    Try this and let us know how it goes.

    Hi Andrew,

    I cleared the cache and I have looked at the website with both Safari and Chrome, both on an iPad, and the attached screen shot is what I see.

    The moment I touch the screen, the grey disappears and pictures are displayed.

    Were you looking at the site on a laptop or desktop computer?

    Also if I select the masonry style blog with sidebar and Classic selected, the whole post is destroyed 😔 (I’ve left the live website like  that for you to see, scroll down and you’ll see what I mean. https://journal.annettepriceart.com/

    None of the masonry options work except the very last one (Auto Masonry)

    And ideas?

    Thanks

    Annette

    Hi Annette,

    Thank you for getting back to us.

    1. I recommend the lazy load option in the Salient > General Settings > Performance. Try this and let us know how it goes.

    2. Please check for plugin conflicts by deactivating the third-party plugins then reactivate it back one by one to see the one that causes issues.

    Try this and let us know if the issues are resolved.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Andrew,

    Thank you for your suggestions and for trying to help sort out this theme for me.

    Before I had received your reply, I had already searched for and purchased an alternative theme.

    I like Salient, but not having a simple button to just switch the sidebar between left and right is such a basic thing to have on a website, that it has left me wondering what other basic things I will find missing in the future, if I stay with this theme.

    There are also elements in the theme that I really don’t like and can’t see how to change them, for example, the Previous and Next buttons are huge pictures with text overlaid. I would really like them to have a gap between the two pictures with the text beside or beneath the pictures. My work is abstract painting, which tends to be very busy, so the lettering can’t be seen clearly on top of the pictures. There are several little design elements like that, that  I know I’m going to want to change, so I decided to find a theme that has the elements I actually want, because Salient isn’t quite the right fit for my website.

    I have been developing the replacement website, with the alternative theme, and will it make live soon and completely delete the Salient theme.

    Thanks for trying to sort out the sidebar problem, but please can I have a refund? It would be really appreciated and helpful if you can help me with that, as I will not be using your theme.

    Thank you

    Annette

    Hi Annette,

    Thank you for getting back to us.

    That's unfortunate. My apologies for the inconvenience caused. We always provide refunds for anyone who requests them. Once you fill out the form here, we'll be able to approve it from our end and it should be issued back to you from Envato within a couple of business days.

    All the best as you continue with your project.smile.png
