Just updated to 5.5 and noticed that all of the pages have '[vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text] spread throughout the document. I've started deleting them as it obviously isn't desirable.
Any ideas what caused this... something doesn't seem right.
Don't delete those '[vc_column_text]' shortcodes! When you install the Visual Composer plugin, your text won't be formatted correctly and you'll lose your columns.
I own and have been using the standard (raw) Visual Composer plugin, which gets updated quite frequently. I'm sure that all of those updates make it difficult for theme developers like ThemeNectar who have a "custom" version of Visual Composer, because then they keep having to release theme updates to keep up with it.
My guess is that they are separating the plugin from the theme so that they can be updated independent of each other.
Although the "READ ME FIRST" directions say that you will be asked to install the Salient Visual Composer, I found that I had to unzip the Salient Theme update, then go into my WordPress dashboard, choose Plugins > Add New and then upload the js_composer_salient.zip that you will find in the salient>plugins folder in the update folder you unzipped.
Even after installing and activating the plugin, you may still need to go into your WordPress dashboard, choose Settings > Visual Composer, and then click on Administrator and put checkmarks on the features you want (or choose "Select All" at the bottom) and then save the changes.
THEN you will see the Visual Composer features back in your site, and then it will know what to do with those [vc_column_text] shortcodes you may have deleted. Doh!
Have no fear, use the "versions" feature on each page and switch it back to a version before you deleted the shortcodes.
DISCLAIMER: I don't work for ThemeNectar, I'm just a fellow Salient user like yourself hoping to help out, so my suggestions are not "official". Best of luck!
Huh...I'm going to have to try that solution later tonight. I was getting the same issue when I updated and installed VC. Didn't know I'd have to go to the new VC and make changes. Thanks.
Hi, Still loving the theme :)

Guessing it has to do with the Visual Composer ... now switched off?
You need to install the updated Visual Composer plugin - it will be in the plugins folder of the Salient theme that you have downloaded.
Woooah... is this something I had previously? I don't remember having to do this before?
Installing it now. Thanks for the quick response!
Isaak
It's something the ThemeNectar guys did in 5.5... it's in the update notes they provided us. ;)

A new update is coming out tonight so you could update to that instead of editing code.

Great, thanks! BTW, if you can remove those weird little suitcase things for woocommmerce that would be sweet.
Hey Frank, Do you meant the locks that let you add the products to the cart ?.

Yes, the locks. They are not very visually intuitive.
@Frank There is already a text over option in the latest update so you can use that:
