I've tried to upgrade my site to 5.5.3 and have the follow error in the dashboard after activating the VC plugin :
Warning: fopen(/home/compag/public_html/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/js_composer.php) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/compag/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4183
Warning: fread() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/compag/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4186
Warning: fclose() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/compag/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4189
I'm running a multisite installation, and I'm on 4.1.1. I have tried to follow the instructions via the theme when activating the theme (activate pre-packaged plugin) and tried installing via ftp upload, result is the same. Disabling the VC plugin removes the error.
I've tried this, but it didn't really work like it should.
After renaming the plugin folder, I get the message of the missing plugin in the dashbord again. I've installed it again this way and have now 2 folders in my plugin "js_composer_salient" & "js_composer". The error message has disappeared and the VC is displaying correct on my site, so that has been solved. Strange..
The Multisite issue that you seem to be having was sorted and will be added in the upcoming bugfix theme update . You wont need to folders after the update.

Hey!
Could you try renaming the "js_composer_salient" plugin folder name to "js_composer" via FTP and check.
Thanks
