Portfolio Slider/Gallery & YouTube

The YouTube videos describe how to setup a slider in place of the primary featured image on a Portfolio page using a gallery.

I don't see that option anymore. Another support ticket said to use the Image Gallery shortcode, but that doesn't work either.

Is this feature still possible? This was one of the top reasons why I purchased this theme....

Can you please update the YouTube videos? I purchased the theme in large part because of the videos and features I saw it was capable of.

    Hey,

You can use the Image Gallery Visual Composer Page element which has alot more features . See screenshot:

    Thanks

    Thanks for responding!

I tried that and it didn't seem to work (I saw it as a response to a different ticket here). What's making it hard is that I'm not sure where to put the Image Gallery. The picture you've linked shows a Page object rather than a Portfolio object. Also, what settings (if any) are required in order to turn the featured image into a slider/image-gallery?

    Here's what I've tried...

    • I tried putting an Image Gallery in the top wysiwyg, but that just put the slider in the right sidebar.
    • I tried putting an Image Gallery in the bottom wysiwyg, but that just put the slider underneath the featured image.

I haven't been able to get the featured image to turn into a slider using an Image Gallery.

Here's a few notes about my install. It's basically brand new and completely fresh.

    Hey Again,

There is a hide featured image option , you have to turn that off and add the Featured Image as well as other images in the Gallery.

    Thanks

    Ahh, that works. :)

Though, I have a question about the Image Gallery. It doesn't seem to resize the images chosen to fit within the chosen dimensions. What is your intended use-case for the Image Gallery? Is it such that each image in the gallery is the same size? What do you recommend if the images in the gallery are of varying sizes? Would using a NectarSlider be more beneficial for me?

What I'm seeing happen right now for the Image Galleries in my Portfolio is that the images are often cut off on each side. I'd much rather set the gallery to about half of what it's at now (900x600, chosen because that's the width of images but not necessarily the height) and expect that the gallery resize the images to fit inside the chosen image gallery dimension. But, it doesn't seem to resize the images to fit which makes everything look and behave sloppy. You can take a look at what I'm trying to build out here: tylermooreux.com/portfolio

I have a few other smaller questions as well for achieving small customizations to the theme. Would you rather I open a separate ticket for each question? Or just ask here?

    Hey,

If the images are of varying sizes you can use the Basic slider . You can ask the questions here, but do keep in mind support does not include theme customizations though we try to help as much as we can :) .

    Thanks

    Hi Tahir,

Is there not a shortcode option to add in even a basic slider for these pages without going through the Visual Composer? I seem to remember it being significantly easier to create these galleries in earlier versions of Salient (from memory there was actually a box you could simply drop your photos into).

    Thanks

    Hey Jon,

That option was removed as the new VC gallery is more versatile.

    Thanks
