I received emails that there was a need to update visual composer to 4.7.4, I did that, and now it doesn't work.

when I click on the plus sign to add an element, the screen turns white and freezes. I upgraded several sites with the same effect, and now can't edit.

    Advice?

    Thank you.

    Hey ,

We just updated VC to 4.7.4 . Please update by updating the Theme and then updating plugin by Appearance -> Install Plugin Menu .

    Thanks

I am having this problem with 4.7.4. Visual Composer doesn\'t work after I did the update (it was fine before). That is what I am asking help with. I am not the only person experiencing this problem.

A user just wrote this .

I fixed it. Wow - the whole visual composer thing really messed with me for a bit. Of note is the PHP error that broke my site. The new salient visual composer requires PHP 5.4

    Thanks

I updated Salient and everything became unresponsive - white screens with no function or content. This is on a local install running Mac\'s MAMP that is running PHP 5.6.7

Thankfully did a full backup beforehand and have everything back to normal.

How do we update Visual Composer following the email from Envato?

    Thank you!

i definitely need more clarification, thank you.

    I am using:

    salient 6.01

    visual composer 4.74

both of my servers are using php 5.4

I have salient and visual composer installed in two situations on two different servers:

    1. wordpress multi-site where themes and plugins are installed on a network administrator

    2. a stand-alone wordpress site

I am having the exact same problem in both cases (visual composer is not working when I click on the “+” sign the screen goes white and is inoperable (I have to refresh to get back to where I was, can’t add elements to the site)

What do you suggest that I do to correct? Uninstall and reinstall visual composer? Or?

Everything worked fine before I installed the visual composer update, and I only did that because of the vulnerabilities that envato described in recent emails.

I just used the following method that you suggested to overwrite the salient visual compuser on drpop.org, one of my sites using salient theme. The result was unsuccessful. I still have the same problem using visual composer (get a white screen, frozen, when I try to add an element)

  • Go to your Downloads page in your ThemeForest profile.
  • Locate the Download button next to Salient and click it. Upon clicking the Download button, a dropdown should appear.
  • Select Installable WordPress file only from the dropdown to begin downloading a .zip file of Salient itself.
  • Once you have downloaded this .zip file to your computer, uncompress it by double-clicking on it. This will reveal an unzipped version of the Salient theme.
  • Inside the Salient Theme Folder there is a /plugins folder which contains the js_composer_salient.zip, uncompress it by double-clicking on it. This will reveal an unzipped version of the Salient Visual Composer Plugin .
  • Connect to your server via FTP and navigate to your /wp-content/plugins/js_composer_salient directory.
  • Drag and drop the uncompressed version of Salient Visual Composer into this directory and ensure that all old files are overwritten.

Also, please note that my wordpress menu looks different than the one in your article:

There is no plug-in optiion within Appearance

There is just a plug-in menu under the Appearance menu

There is also a separate Visual Composer menu item

    see attached

For what it\'s worth, I was able to complete the update to Salient version 6.1.65 and Visual Composer 4.7.4 without trouble once I removed custom php and js modifications from the child theme folder. For me, that was what was causing my problems. I\'m now updated to current versions.
