    Hello

I've completed a website build using the Salient theme (my first one) . As you can imagine there have been loads of tweaks and adjustments and many hours spent to get it looking right.

I've only now come across the concept of a Child Theme and the importance of this to ensure that I can update the theme without affecting my customisation. I did not set up a child theme at the start as this was not included in the Salient User Guide "First Steps" section.

Please can you provide step-by-step instructions on how to set up a child theme *without* losing all of the customisation already in place. My goal is to ensure that I can update the theme and plugins in future if needed.

    Thanks in advance,

PS. I would also recommend that you update the Salient User Guide PDF to make it very clear that one of the first steps must be setting up a Child Theme immediately after the installation of the theme.

    Hey ,

Child Themes are a very complex topic so we can not provide much info on it other than the Official Guide: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes .

Also you may use this guide to upgrade to the latest version: http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/upgrade-wordpress-themes-even-if-they-are-customized/ .

    Best.
