I got the same issue since I updated WordPress last night. No Visual Composer back end end showing up and the console error shows "Uncaught TypeError: $template.get is not a function"
Same issue here. I can see the code of my page thru "classic mode" but it doesnt show me visual composer / page builder mode anymore.. Why does Wordpress 4.5 do this?
Should i just downgrade my WP to the previous version? Does anyone know the WP that was before this when things were working?
If you guys install 7.0.8 and still see a broken VC its most likely because you have to remove the old Salient VC plugin first. The steps I follow each time are:
Upload new theme version to server via FTP
BACK UP YOUR SITE!
Remove old theme files from Salient directory
Extract new theme files into the Salient directory
Deactivate and Delete Salient Visual Composer from installed plugins list
Once doing so, you will see Install Plugins under Appearance which will include the NEW version of Salient's VC to install.
Install it and activate it and you should be good to go.
I've had to follow these same steps several times over the last few theme updates to get the latest VC version working. Salient developers will tell you to install the new version and then go to the Appearance > Install Plugins but for me it never shows up until I first delete the old VC version.
@JordanW I'm hesitated to waste $34 when we don't/shouldn't have too - Salient is packaged with VC already, not to mention it's a customized version from the Salient developers for the theme. Can you speak on what differences you notice between the vanilla VC and the Salient VC, if any?
@GeraldV Unfortunately I've tried that a few times and still no luck. Thanks anyway, my last option is to do a fresh install of Wordpress/theme/plugins. It must be an FTP/file versioning issue at this point for me.
@Jordan Stambaugh did you delete all files inside the Salient theme folder prior to installing the new version? In the past I made the mistake of just overwriting the existing files and that caused total chaos. Just thought I'd mention that one too. I've been using this theme for two or three years and for 6 other sites so there have been quite a few little quirks that I found along the way. Your comment about file-versioning made me think to mention it since that would only really be an issue if the previous files are not removed entirely first.
@GeraldV , @Peter I've done the steps you both described. I actually have another site using Salient and interestingly enough it works on that site, but it doesn't even display on the page on the site I'm having trouble with. I'm stuck with shortcodes.
This is getting so frustrating, no one know how to properly fix this Visual Composer? They said updates are going to be available in a few hours. Its been a full day and nothing!
WordPress toolkit for Envato Marketplace hosted items. Currently supports the following theme functionality: install, upgrade, & backups during upgrade.
So I've deleted all theme files, uploaded 7.08, deactivated/deleted/reinstalled Salient VC and VC is still not showing up on the edit page. I get the top section of the VC interface, but none of the rows/elements (see screenshot attached). There is also a console error which may be of some help? Screenshot of that also attached.

@Tahir: Where is that "download" button next to Salient?!!?!?! Can't you please just give us a direct download link here instead. This is my first time using wordpress and I really don't think you're making it easy.
Make a plugin update directly in WP or something - i'm really going crazy...
I got it working by deleting the old theme, deleting the VC plugin, and installing fresh theme and plugin. Just updating the plugin after the new theme is in, doesn't fix the problem.
So just delete Salient Visual composer and the theme will ask you to install it again, it should work.
Hi!

Having the same issue here. I just replied stay on track.
same same. is there a fix yet?
Seems like that fixed the VC but now all the page settings are gone? Anyone else experiencing this?
There is no way to edit or delete the top images and heading, as well as Yoast, etc.
Same problem here...!
I figured it out. Go to the top of the screen you'll see "screen options" in the top right.
You just have to toggle everything back on.

I fixed it by downgrading to a prev. version of WP .. didnt want to but heres a video to guide you:
I just updated to 7.0.8 - doesn't make any difference. Seems to me it is still broken.

Hi All -
This is what I did and it fixed it - Im using SALIENT theme. Spend the $34 to purchase the Visual Composer Plugin.
Go into WP - deactivate your current Visual Composer. Install the new Visual Composer that's out now. Activate. And now it works again.

@Jordan Stambaugh see my comment below. Its the proper way to get it working again.

If you check the plugins after updating the theme you will see that the Salient VC Plugin needs updating.
That will do it.

@Peter, I bought the Salient theme a month ago but it doesn't tell me to update. Where do you see that the theme needs updating?
Thanks
@Natalie there's Theme Nectar plugin that helps you manage Theme Updates.

Hey @Peter, just updating the theme. Thank you! Hope it will work!

I get the top section of the VC interface, but none of the rows/elements (see screenshot attached). There is also a console error which may be of some help? Screenshot of that also attached.

Hey Marta,
Please see: https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/how-to-update-themeforest-themes-with-the-envato-wordpress-toolkit/ .

I got it working by deleting the old theme, deleting the VC plugin, and installing fresh theme and plugin. Just updating the plugin after the new theme is in, doesn't fix the problem.
So just delete Salient Visual composer and the theme will ask you to install it again, it should work.
Okay, so I installed the envato toolkit - that didn't do anything.
I tried to deactivate - delete and reinstall salient child, salient + Visual composer....
Nothing is working!?!
@Maria
Could you please go through this checklist quickly so we can rule out common issues https://themenectar.ticksy.com/article/5032/ .
