    When activating the actual Visual Composer plugin with Salient, it kills my Portfolio and Post shortcodes.

    Hey ,
    Please use the Bundled Salient VC instead of the WPBakery VC . Yes the WPbakery VC would cause the Salient VC shortcodes to not function .
