That visual composer add on plugin does not work because the theme's salient visual composer is a bit modified.
You could try to see if there is another plugin you can use for this effect. Currently we do not have a recommended one.
Also have you tried the image gallery element? It has some hover effects. Try and set it to image gallery on gallery type and see if any of the gallery style options will fit your needs.

but they dont seem to work with Salient's visual composer
