I can't figure out how you managed to get this beautiful sorted grid (with tall & wide) preview photos and at the same time have this small gap between each element.
I already tried a couple of things like the new "project item spacing" and the "photography based" "Masonry Grid Sizing" option but non of them seem to achieve this lovely and perfect "grid" with no empty spaces at the end of the list on all screen sizes.
Didn't know that beside the "portfolio" element there was a new "image gallery" element added now :-)

Watching your video, I setup everything as shown but still couldn't figure out how you managed to keep the "wide, tall & square" aspect of the images you use in the "image gallery"?
As you can see, everything is "square" for me at the moment:
The thing that you might have missed is selecting the masonry size from the image selection popup that comes up when adding image to the image gallery. That size will be used in the masonry grid.
Please see attached screenshot of what we mean. In the popup right column, scroll to bottom when you select the image to add.
We logged in and noticed you had not updated the salient visual composer plugin from 4.12 to 4.12.1. We did the update and the option is available where we showed you on previous message.

...even if I setup the "Masonry Item Sizing" (regular, wide, tall or wide & tall) for each portfolio element in advance separately .
But maybe I just missed another option somewhere you can point me to :-)
