I am trying to change the Styling on the Portfolio page and the slider on the home page to Meta on hover + entire thumb link, I have checked the box for this in the Project Style in the Salient, Portfolio Styling setting and I get no change.
I am also trying to get rid of the media icons ‘Shares’ and the heart symbol on the Portfolio page
Also trying to get the page title to align on the left on these pages.
I have looked at the online videos and documentation over and over, I have to say that though I can see this theme is good, not everything is out of the box one click.
The documentation is inaccurate like with the styling page, where does that refer to in the dashboard, you could at least say it is the Salient option panel instead ‘theme options panel’ your documentation seems to be like this all over, a lot of guess work is involved.

If you have added the Portfolio VC Element then you will have to change the Option in the VC Options and not the Salient Theme Options Panel :
Add this into the Custom CSS box located in your Salient Options panel (Make Sure there are no red cross in the Box) :
