ISSUES WITH VISUAL COMPOSER PLUGIN  Ver. 4.12.1

I've been using Salient over the past few months to set up a website. It was recommended by a friend and I must say that I have found it to be excellent. Thank you for your hard work on this product.

After updating Salient to version 7.6 about a month ago, I am having problems that I have narrowed down to the Visual Composer Plugin 4.12.1

I was getting very high bandwidth and 98-100% CPU usage on my server. After extensive troubleshooting, I have found that the problem seems to be related to the above plugin. When I disable it then the issue goes away. If I reactivate the plugin it seems OK but if I make any changes to the site then the CPU usage goes through the roof again.

It seems that the plugin causes something to go into a loop. I have attached a screenshot from my server C-Panel that shows the same action being requested repeatedly. When I disable the plugin, this activity ceases.

I could activate/deactivate the plugin each time I want to use the visual composer but that would not be a particularly elegant or practical solution

Do you have any recommendations that would assist me in resolving this problem.?

    Thanks for your assistance

    Regards

    Brendan

    Hey ,

What version of PHP is installed on the Server?. Try updating to PHP7 . We have had reports of such behavior in earlier versions of Visual Composer as well and was likely due to a bug.  A upcoming Theme update will include VC version 5.0 so this should likely be resolved .

    Best.

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly. The server runs PHP 5.4 at present and I don't believe that I have control over the version.

I'm pleased to hear that a coming update may resolve the issue. In the meantime I might try uninstalling and reinstalling the VC plugin.

Hello Tahir. I'm still having issues with this plugin which is part of the Salient theme. It seems to cause the server to go into a loop fairly randomly. The result is that both my bandwidth and CPU usage go crazy. Because the server CPU is maxed out my site is about as fast as a snail. I was hoping to unistall and reinstall the plugin but as it is part of your theme I cannot do that as it wants me to actually purchase the plugin. I'm glad that this know issue will be fixed in the next update. Do you know when that is likely to be? In the meantime what can I do to stop the problem that I am experiencing? Do you have any suggestions? For example, could I go back to an earlier version of Salient? (not sure how I would do that or if it would help). I did disable the plugin but then of course my site does not display properly. I get a lot of raw code displaying which is obviously not desirable. I would appreciate any assistance that you can give.

    Thank you

    Brendan

    Hey Again,

One Thing that you can try is Turn off all the unneeded elements in the VC Settings in the WP Dashboard as well as Other Options  that you dont use:

This should yield some Performance Improvements .

    Hello again Tahir

Thanks for your suggestion which I tried but alas it did not work.

However, I think that I may finally have found the culprit. I tried lots and lots of things (and pulled out lots and lots of hair). I even rolled Salient back to a previous version, etc. all to no avail.

However, I tried to think of any changes that I had made at about the same time that I upgraded to Salient 7.6. I realized that I had also setup MailChimp. I then found some obscure references about this problem occurring with one of the MailChimp plugins - specifically MailChimp for WooCommerce. I disabled that plugin and immediately the problem disappeared. I then upgraded again to Salient 7.6 and the latest Visual Composer.

For about the last hour I have not had any CPU/bandwidth issues so it seems that I may finally have resolved this. Was it simply that the MailChimp for WooCommerce plugin was the issue or did it just cause a conflict with Salient/Visual Composer? I don't know. But I am happy to have this resolved.

I thought that I would let you know as it may be a helpful troubleshooting point if you have someone else that reports a similar issue.

    Regards

    Brendan
