In need of some changes, and because some magic decided to take all the font awesome icons I had attached to my Salient 7, I decided to upgrade my website to the 8th.
Little did I know, it would basically destroy my whole layout (I updated the theme more than once with various methods), which is, let's be honest, quite terrible.
So I thought to myself : "meh, maybe it's time for some dusting, and overall improvement". And off I went to my front page, eager to try out the new stuff added since version 6, which I made my first layout with.
I clicked on the oh so convenient visual composer button, and to my surprise, I simply had a bar, with the regular tools. But nothing under it. I clicked on the "add" button, clicked on one of the many choices, nothing. I tried with the "page layout" option, under the text box, nothing either. Just no response at all.
So I went back to version 7, and to my surprise, only the icon problem was solved. I still have a "meh" layout, which I cannot update through the visual editor. And neither can I upgrade to Salient 8, because it just destroys all my pages' layout, made with the visual composer.
As for some tech info, I run Wordpress 4.7.3, Salient 7.0.5/8.0.15, and Visual Composer 4.3.5. Other than the recommended plugins, I run AiO SEO, Alpine PhotoTile for Flickr, Google Analytics by MonsterInsights, Jetpack and W3Total Cache with all useful options on.
Thanks a lot for any solution, and sorry for the long (but kind of well written, I guess) post !
Alright, my mistake was to download the "files only" theme, I didn't have the documentation explaining there was a bug with the VC unable to update to 5.
Thanks a lot for the answer, it works perfectly now ! :)
