How could I add other social media badges to the default sharing buttons in the theme? I'd like to specifically add instagram, but also alot for the possibility of other networks in the future.
Hey Lew, each sharing button would require custom javascript development since it's actively gathering the share count based on the data retrieved from the applicable social site's API. It would a lot more practical to not use the default Salient buttons and just grab a plugin to assist you with this if you don't want to take on a good deal of coding.
As Nectar mentioned you will likely have to use a third party plugin. IF you need some custom css for changing colors etc let us know the page url and we will sort it for you.
Unfortunately we dont have the instagram icon in the shortcode. Best would be to use third party instagram plugins . Let us know if you styling issues.

Not easy to find a plugin that is styled as nicely as the Salient buttons, any plans to add instagram

@Adam, Adding an Icon is only part of the solution the Instagram API would also need to be integrated.

I do get that, and don't get me wrong, the Salient team is great.
It just seems like something that could have been solved like Facebooks API was - https://developers.facebook.com/docs/instagram-api/
The API's are similar from what I read.
